Phuket Business :Quality time at Gymboree

Gymboree - early childhood development program from the US - was founded in 1976 and has around 550 branches around the world.

There are 10 branches in Bangkok and their 11th Thai branch opened at the Edu-Planet - the new zone of Central Festival Phuket last month.

Managing Director of Gymboree Phuket, Kanokporn Ilstam had more than ten years in hospitality and worked at Le Royal Meridian Yacht Club and Banyan Tree Spa before deciding a change of career was in order.

Khun Kanokporn said, “My inspiration to open Gymboree Phuket was essentially my daughter Erica (3 years old). I just want to take care of her with the best service possible.”
Khun Kanokporn explained that it was this desire coupled with the knowledge that, in her opinion, there wasn’t the same quality of child development centres in Phuket that can be found in Bangkok.

She believes that as a result of busier lifestyles, less parental and family time is available. “If parents just stay home and do not play or do any activity with their children; the children will not develop.

“We can not put a price on time. Here we have lots of activities for parents and children to do together.”

Khun Kanokporn believes that the parent and child can then return home and repeat the exercises together, so that home time is more worthwhile and meaningful.”
