Update: Phuket Tsunami Warning Buoy Floats Free

UPDATE
The Navy intercepted the tsunami warning buoy at 6.30am on Saturday 196 miles off the Andaman coast and is now carrying the vital piece of equipment back to base at Tablamu in Phang Nga, where its arrival is expected at 8am on Sunday.

More than 900 Phuketians experienced an American 4th of July picnic - Phuket Navy League Style - at the HeadStart International School in Phuket.

The international school was buzzing with activity to a background of well-known American songs and the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs barbequing on grills.

The Phuket Navy League put together this American-themed day as a way of showcasing a bit of Americana to Thais, Americans, and foreign nationals living or visiting here. A great selection of American foods were served like apple pie, hot dogs and hamburgers, roasted corn, tex-mex ribs and tacos, American sandwiches, ice cream and watermelon. Highlighting the food stalls were 4 brands of Real American Beer.

Jetstar has launched double daily services between Singapore and Phuket. The new double daily Phuket-Singapore services follow Jetstar Asia’s recent increase of services on its Singapore-Bangkok route to three times daily (21 weekly services).

“Loads are very strong from Singapore, with flights in particular over the Christmas period and already for the Chinese New Year period filling to nearly 90%,” said Jetstar Asia / Valuair Chief Executive Ms Chong Phit Lian. “The schedule of a twice daily service is proving a popular option for travelers.”
